BOWLS
These are formed by pouring parian slip into custom made moulds. These moulds are quite simplistic which allow me plenty of scope to cut, alter and place additions. The heat of the firing also affects the final shape, which I can control to a certain extent when packing the kiln, but ultimately the fire imparts it’s own individual stamp making each piece unique.
I use black parian slip to decorate during the forming process and spray a light glaze application in certain areas where I require a mother of pearl lustre or platinum lustre highlight. Pieces are fired to 1220 degrees centigrade followed by a lustre firing to 750 degrees centigrade.
TUBE FORMS
These are formed by pouring parian slip into custom made tube moulds which again are very simplistic, providing me with a blank canvass to cut, fold, indent and add slip ‘ribbons’. They are presented on either oak or slate blocks.
The tube forms are fired either lying on a bed of ceramic fibre or standing upright, depending on the amount of heat distortion to the profile I require.
Decorated with black parian slip and highlighted with mother of pearl and platinum lustre they are fired to 1220 degrees centigrade followed by a lustre firing to 750 degrees centigrade.
